Whether the sun is out or hiding behind the clouds, one thing is sure-you'll need sun block protection. A sun block lotion is one of the most important things you'll need when going outdoors. Its main purpose is to literally block your skin from the sun's harmful ultra-violet rays, and prevent your skin from any damage that the sun can cause.
One factor to consider when purchasing sun block lotion is its SPF factor, which guards your skin from the sun's harmful rays. The SPF basically tells you by how many times it increases the natural protection of your skin.
Most sun blocking lotions have an SPF of 15, 30, or 45 so look for a lotion that gives you protection from both UVA and UVB rays. Both types of ultra-violet rays can damage the skin, and can lead to skin cancer, premature aging of the skin, and other harmful skin conditions.
If you do a lot of physical activities outdoors, it would be best to look for one that is both waterproof and sweat proof. If you are an avid swimmer and you're wearing a sun screen or lotion that isn't waterproof, then you are simply washing off your means of protection against the sun. Many of the lotions are usually thicker in consistency, but it is well worth it.
Lotions should be applied 15 to 20 minutes before being exposed to the sun. Once applied, it is usually, most water resistant and effective for about 80 minutes. After this time period, you should re-apply sun block lotion or sun screen on your face and body.
