Like Cosmetic Surgery and Dental implant, Root Canal Treatment is just another means to safeguard your tooth from further decay and restore the awesomeness of your smile! Endodontic Treatment is synonymous to Modern Root Canal Treatment specializing in dealing with diseases in the pulp of a tooth. There is a root inside each tooth and the pulp which is present right in the centre of the tooth and also in the form of canals which is known as a root canal and the removing of this pulp is known as the Endodontic Treatment.
The two reasons that require this treatment arefirstly, tooth that is infected and secondly, due to accidental fracturing of the tooth pulp. It might so happen that while crowning of a tooth, it might lead to destroying of the pulp of the tooth. This might prove fatal. Even a fractured tooth can damage the pulp so one should take immediate notice and consult the dentist as soon as possible. It is then that a person will require a Root Canal. If the traumatized tooth is just inflamed, yet not infected, the damage might heal by itself but it would specifically depend upon your family dentist's consultation.
The fractured tooth is mainly caused due to tooth decay. Germs let the infection to spread and this might lead to pus formation in that affected area therefore, leading to the formation of a pus pocket' that develops at the root tip and going up to the jawbone. This can affect both the bones in the jaw area as well as the tooth. If the affected pulp is not taken proper care of immediately, it might lead to swelling, thereby causing immense pain. Even certain byproducts caused due to the infection might prove injurious for the jawbone. If this is not looked into then, you might have to get the tooth removed.
You needn't worry as it isn't as time consuming as Dental Implants and if proper care is taken then, this treatment will last for a lifetime but regular keeping in touch with the dentist would not harm! This treatment will take around two to three visits to the endodontist and the procedure would be to clean and seal the pulp of the tooth to make a permanent fixation of the decayed tooth. The dentist first makes an opening into the crown and puts in a channel right into the centre to clean up the pulp. The crown that had been opened is provided with temporary filling by the dentist so that the next time you visit him, the infection gets drained.
Once this process is completed, preferably a porcelain crown is set in the affected area. The endodontist might suggest that you consult your family dentist as the latter would be more aware of your case history. The crown is then set in place causing minimal or absolutely no pain. Finally, we expect you will be all smiles at the end of the completed treatment.
