Patricia Dunn, a former board chairman of Hewlett-Packard Co. who resigned five years ago after HP's 2006 spying scandal died at age 58 on December 4, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. Patricia Dunn is survived by her husband of 30 years, William Jahnke; three adult children including daughters Janai Brengman and Michelle Cox, son Michael Jahnke; ten grandchildren; a brother, Paul Dunn, and a sister, Lammers. The family is planning a memorial service in San Francisco and the funeral arrangements will be update soon.
William Jahnke, Patricia Dunn's husband, a former head of Wells Fargo Investment Advisors confirmed her death in an interview with The Wall Street Journal today and later said that Dunn died Sunday of ovarian cancer at her home in Orinda, California surrounded by her family. William Jahnke described his late wife as a "tenacious" cancer patient, outliving the three-year life expectancy for her type of ovarian cancer by nearly five years.
Prior to her post at H-P, Patricia Dunn served as the CEO of Barclays Global Investors, where she started her career as a secretary. Furthermore, Patricia Dunn ranked No 17 on Forbes’ list of most powerful women in 2005 and was voted the "Financial Woman of the Year" in 2001 by the Financial Women's Association of San Francisco. Referring to her health, Patricia Dunn had struggled with her bad condition for more than a decade. The ex-HP chair was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2001, melanoma in 2002. After having survived breast cancer and melanoma, Patricia Dunn had been diagnosed with advanced (Stage IV) ovarian cancer in January 2004 and a recurrence, in the liver, in 2006.
