Don't forget to put on your sunscreen when going out in the sun this summer.
Whether your walking, running, hitting the trails or going for a bike ride, don't forget one very important thing before you head out the door - Sunscreen.
Despite all the evidence that UVB and UVA rays are harmful, people are still heading out in hopes of getting a tan. It's a bad decision to not wear sunscreen.
Sunburn happens when the amount of exposure to the sun exceeds the ability of the body's protective pigment, melanin, to sufficiently protect the skin.
A sunburn might not be visible right away. Before you even realize that you are burned, the damage to your skin is already done.
Years of long-term overexposure to the sun hold severe consequences. Even just one sunburn doubles the risk of developing a malignant skin melanoma. Sun exposure can cause age spots and wrinkles.
What To Remember When You Head Outside
If you do decide to head out this summer for some fun in the sun, which most of us plan to do, remember to pack the sunscreen. Sunscreen contains UVB and UVA filters that protect your skin by absorbing or reflecting the UV rays of the sun.
Sunscreens in come in many different forms:
Ointments Creams Gels Lotions Sprays Wax Sticks All sunscreens in are labeled with SPF numbers, the higher the SPF the greater the protection from sunburn caused mostly by UVB rays. Sunscreens that offer protection against both UVA and UVB rays are available.
It is also important to apply sunscreen liberally and often, about every 2 hours is what is recommended. This may seem like a tedious task but the short term and long term results are well worth the effort.
So get out there and get your exercise in the sun, just remember to protect yourself with your sunscreen each and everytime you are outside. If you are looking to get that bikini body in time to hit the beach a personal trainer is a great way motivate yourself to get into shape.
