The metabolic engine that controls every system and process in the body especially turning our food into energy is the final switch that the aging process 'turns off'. This has the disastrous effect of allowing excess body fat to accumulate, the dreaded 'middle age spread' and combines this with low energy levels that hastens our decline.
In order to flip your metabolic switch back to the 'on position' you need to stimulate the release of the growth and repair hormones that can restore a more youthful body along with all of its systems and processes. For your body to do this it needs to be told that its strength is needed by simply performing regular muscle maintaining activity.
Lost muscle tissue needs to be rebuilt if you with to remain in good physical condition as the years pass by. But the fact is as much as one half pound of muscle tissue is lost each year after the mid 20's unless proper exercise is done to stop it.
It is vital that the right exercise program is performed at the right level of intensity (degree of effort used). A brisk walk in the park or 20 minutes on the treadmill or bike will raise your heart rate, but it will not help you release growth and repair hormones that will give an anti aging effect.
What is needed is strength training exercise. Short sustained bursts of activity that challenge and create an oxygen deficit in the muscles is the most appropriate form of activity to increase the metabolic rate (the speed of our body's engine) so it can burn more fat as fuel.
At the same time, when muscles contract and relax during multiple sets of strength training resistance exercise, the body is stimulated to produce significant levels of 'youth' hormones to repair and renew the tissues that have been challenged. Healthy, new strong tissue replaces old worn old cells and tissue which is just what is needed to rejuvenate the entire body.
Strength training exercise is such a powerful anti aging tool it can reverse muscle and bone loss and make our bodies work better and become leaner. It can also restore your looks, health and energy to youthful levels. Your brain will also be powered up and focus, concentration and memory improved.
Make sure you have a fitness professional help you get started so you not only do the exercises correctly but you put in the right amount of effort to get results. Your program also needs to be upgraded regularly and your progress monitored.
Without a doubt this type of exercise program is the most important tool to help you fight the telltale signs of aging both inside the body and on the outside as well. So, take that Father Time.
